Business Solutions

From AMI projects to smart grid initiatives and the intelligent utility, utilities around the world are embarking on a journey toward the future.  AMI is arguably the foundational implementation of technologies to enhance operational efficiency by providing consumer energy usage data. Smart grid projects and the intelligent utility concept represent a strategic evolution to leverage this usage data and other Smart Grid data in order to achieve new business paradigms.  The ability to manage and leverage data in ways that utilities are not capable of today will be key to the future success of Smart Grid implementations. Due to the rapidly evolving nature of the market, utilities are demanding business solutions that are open and interoperable, resulting in a surge of interest in, and demand for, solutions that are built upon standards.

Xtensible understands the unique challenges that utilities are facing today, and we have worked with our strategic partners to bring together business solutions to the utility business domains listed below.  For each business solution we will work with you to refine business processes, identify the required system integration interfaces, define the most appropriate architecture, capture data requirements, build-out an enterprise semantic model based on standards, and generate and test message payloads and services for each integration point.  Together, we can design, develop, and deliver a sustainable and agile solution with lower total cost of ownership than our competitors through the use of our proven MD3i methodology and frameworks.

Utility Operations

As the pioneer in applying IEC 61970 and 61968 standards for energy and distribution management systems integration, Xtensible has been at the forefront of developing and applying CIM standards for utility energy and distribution management business solutions.  Since 1999, we have completed multiple engagements integrating EMS/DMS with multiple other systems in replacement/upgrade projects.  With each project, we bring lessons learned from previous projects to the utilities and bring the results back to the standards development process.  We have worked with many of the leading product vendors in this space, and we deliver integration services and integrated solutions in the following areas:

  • Market Operations
  • Energy Management
  • Distribution Management
  • Outage Management
  • Distribution SCADA
  • Geographical Information Management
  • Advanced Operational Analytics

Work and Asset Management

Xtensible has been at the forefront of developing and applying IEC 61968 CIM standards for utility work and asset management business solutions.  With each project, we bring lessons learned to the utilities and bring the results back to the standards development process.  We have worked with many of the leading product vendors in this space, and we deliver integration services and integrated solutions in the following areas:

  • Geographical Information Management
  • Work Management
  • Mobile Workforce Management
  • Asset Management
  • Strategic Asset Management Analytics

Smart Grid Enablement

The starting point for many utilities to achieve the smart grid vision is to gain access to consumer energy usage data by installing an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) coupled with meter data management, analytics, and demand response capability. As the pioneer in applying IEC 61968 CIM standards for AMI and smart grid  systems integration dating back to 2005, Xtensible has a wealth of experience and mature integration processes in place to provide a quick ramp-up on new projects. We have defined and used the 61968 data models and message payload standards on multiple projects, which are currently available in our MD3i Business Models. We have worked with many of the leading product vendors in this space, and we deliver integration services and integrated solutions in the following areas:

  • Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
  • Meter Data Management
  • Meter Data Analytics
  • Demand Response Management

Consumer Engagement

Xtensible has been at the forefront of developing and applying standards for enabling consumer engagement within the smart grid implementation, including  standards such as Zigbee Smart Energy Profile (SEP), OpenADR, and the NAESB Energy Service Provider Interface (ESPI), which is now the basis for Green Button. With each project, we bring lessons learned to the utilities and bring the results back to the standards development process.  We have worked with many of the leading product vendors in this space, and we deliver integration services and integrated solutions in the following areas:

  • Home Area Network (HAN)
  • Consumer Data Access and Integration (Green Button)
  • Demand Response and Load Control (DRLC)
